Chatham Kent Ontario
Chatham-Kent is a single-tier town in Southwestern Ontario, Canada. Mainly rural, its population centers are Chatham, Wallaceburg, Tilbury, Blenheim, Ridgetown, Wheatley, and Dresden. The existing Municipality of Chatham-Kent was created in 1998 by the merger of Kent County and its municipalities.
The Chatham-Kent census division, that includes the independent Delaware Nation at Moraviantown First Nation, had a population of 102,000 in the 2016 census.
Chatham-Kent’s economy has a base in the vehicle and agricultural sectors. The town and senior levels of the federal government are keen to promote continuing diversification. The CP train splits Chatham city in 2, and the unstaffed Chatham railway station addresses Via Rail guests.
At the borders of Chatham is the headquarters for Pioneer Hi-Bred Limited (a division of DuPont), a significant agricultural seed breeding and biotechnology business.
GreenField Specialty Alcohols Inc.’s Commercial Alcohols division, Canada’s biggest ethanol plant and one of the world’s biggest, opened in Chatham in 1996. The plant produces ethanol for industrial, medical, and beverage uses.
