Lévis Quebec
Lévis is a city in eastern Quebec, Canada, situated on the south coast of the St. Lawrence River, opposite Quebec City. A ferryboat links Old Quebec with Old Lévis, and two bridges, the Quebec and the Pierre-Laporte link western Lévis with Quebec City.
The new city was divided into three arrondissements or boroughs. Desjardins, Les Chutes-de-la-Chaudière-Ouest and Les Chutes-de-la-Chaudière-Est, which correspond to many of the area of the previous RCMs (however, Saint-Henri and Saint-Lambert-de-Lauzon stayed independent and did not amalgamate into Lévis).
The ten previous towns are today districts (secteurs) within the city; each of the three districts are composed of either 3 or 4 districts.
A fairly little city, Lévis is not a typical suburb. The existence of numerous large employers has permitted numerous citizens to both live and work in Lévis. It is home to the Ultramar refinery, one of the biggest in eastern Canada, Frito-Lay and Davie Shipbuilding lie in the district of Lauzon (previous city). The Desjardins Group, in addition to its subsidiary Desjardins Financial Security, is headquartered in the city. The founder, Alphonse Desjardins, resided in Lévis and, with his other half, Dorimène Roy Desjardins, ran the very first Caisse Populaire (similar to a credit union) from their home. The city is likewise a significant farming organization research study & development. More and more high technology businesses, such as Creaform (3D), are established in Lévis.
Lévis is home to the enclosed regional shopping center Les Galeries Chagnon which has 106 stores.
